How to Make Flyers the Easy Way

Flyer design can be a daunting task if you have never done it before. But there are a few secrets than can make the job easier.

Use pre-printed backgrounds or background images to provide instant art for your flyer. Choose a pastel background which will not fight with your type for attention, yet visually reinforce your message. Choose a beach or park background to announce a picnic, a floral background for a bridal shower, or balloons for a children's party.

If your printer does color, you can use background images. Otherwise, choose a pre-printed background which will be suitable for black type.

For company flyers, you may prefer to use a company logo. This may conflict with a background image, so you may opt for an attention-grabbing photo or quality clip art. Be sure you have the legal right to use the art for your project.

When laying out the flyer, be sure to balance the art and type in a pleasing manner. You will balance your art by positioning them in a triangular or rectangular pattern.

Here are more tips:

* Use a bold type for your attention-grabbing phrase. Make it larger than the other type, but be sure it complements your main photo instead of competing with it.

* Don't be afraid to have white space on your page. Consider it an artistic element in your design.

* Consider using a bold and italic typeface from the same family for variation. Or choose a serif and a san serif typeface for variety. The san serif is the plainer of the two.

* Be sure to proofread your flyer carefully to be sure you include all the pertinent information and it is correct.

* Choose quality art for a professional look and be sure to print with a quality printer.

* Use a page layout or art software for more flexibility when designing your page.

* Save your work so you can revise it next time, reducing your design time.
