Improve Workplace Communication

If you're an office manager, or in charge of running a new office regardless of the title, you know about high stress levels. To run a successful office, you need to accomplish many things. These things include making sure workplace communication is at a high level, making sure all necessary office products are available to workers, and making the boss happy. These might sound like three simple steps to the novice, but it's much more difficult than it sounds.

The most difficult step is workplace communication. You're always going to have an array of personalities. Some will click and some will not. In most cases, the personalities that don't click are not because one is a bad person. It's often because they did not have an opportunity to communicate with each other in the right way. While most employees don't like training, it's a necessary step that can go a long way and avoid such dilemmas.

In order to make workplace communication training fun, you're going to need to come up with some unique ideas. One idea that has had a lot of success is fire pit training. The title alone gets workers excited and inquisitive about what might be in store. This is great, because it creates a buzz around the office. Once you have everyone seated around the fire pit, the first exercise will be for each person to write one positive attribute about themselves on a piece of paper and to then place it in the fire pit. You, or a designated individual, will take out the pieces of paper and write down all the attributes on a board. Seeing all these attributes will prove that the office has more than what it takes to succeed. But this is only the first step. Other people don't want to approach superstars they're working with. They want to know that other workers have faults just like them.

This leads to the next exercise, which is for each person to write one thing they don't like about themselves on a piece of paper and to place it in the fire pit. By reading these aloud, it will allow everyone to relax and notice that no one in the room is perfect. Burning the negatives is also an option.

By completing these two fire pit exercises, you will have established confidence in the office as a whole and improved workplace communication. The latter is because if one person is aware that others have faults, they will be more likely to offer assistance.

These two fire pit exercises are highly recommended for any office environment.
